As the news broke of his killing early in the day, scores of youngsters in his neighbourhood and beyond took to streets and threw stones in anger at the government forces. Until late evening the stone-throwing protests were underway and nearly 50 protestors had been wounded in the actions of the government forces. Many of the wounded protestors were hit by shotgun pellets.

A family source said that Dawood’s body reached his home at 6 in the evening and by then thousands of people had reached the Mustabad residence of the slain militant commander for the funeral.

“People in large numbers came to participate in his funeral,” said a cousin brother of the slain militant. The family decided to hold the first round of funeral prayer for the IS chief after the Maghrib prayers.

Though the remains of the slain militant commander weren’t draped in the IS flag, more than a dozen IS flags were being waived by the youth. The mourners raised pro-IS, pro-Paksitan, and pro-freedom slogans.

Songs were played from mosque loudspeakers in the entire area and many mourners were glued to their smartphones listening to the speeches of the slain militant commander. A family source said that Dawood was buried next to his cousin brother Gowhar Nazir Dar who was killed on November 9, by CRPF men in Mustafabad, HMT.

Many mourners denounced actions of the government forces: “Forces resorted to aerial firing and also fired pellets and tear gas shells indiscriminately. Many injured youth were removed to the nearby Noora hospital while others were treated locally,” said Zubair Ahmed, an eye-witness. He said more than 50 protesting youth sustained pellet injuries in the violent clashes in Zainakote, HMT and Mustabad areas. He said a sea of mourners participated in the funeral of Dawood.
