Another incident in Assam : Journalist Tied to a Pole, Beaten For Reporting on Illegal Gambling.

INDIA BREAKING NEWS: Report By Bhupen Goswami, Guwahati :   Another incident  in Assam , Milan Mahanta, a correspondent for the Assomiya Pratidin (An Assamese Daily News Paper ) , had stopped at a paan shop on Sunday afternoon at Mirza, a town located in Kamrup district, when the assault took place.Mirza is around 35 kilometres from state capital, Guwahati.


Incidentally, the attack took place on the day the nation marked National Press Day. The thrashing of Asomiya Pratidin journalist Milan Mahanta who was tied to a light post and beaten up for reporting on gambling activities in Guwahati’s Mirza on Saturday. According to sources, the journalist named Milan Mahanta was shopping at a local market when a man named Sanjay Thakuria confronted Mahanta with a few other men and started abusing him for reporting on illegal gambling activities.He was then subsequently dragged, tied to a light post, and thrashed brutally. Mahanta was later rescued after a large crowd gathered around the incident area and took him to a nearby pharmacy to get him checked up.  After receiving the news of this incident, Bhupen Goswami of Assam, vice president of NUJI, immediately apprised Assam Director General of Police Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta and appealed to investigate it.Goswami emanded the Director General of Assam Police to Arrest all the accused involved in the incident.
