Srinagar, Mar 24 (KNS): Hours after Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) chairman, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai’s family lodged a missing report at Police station Sadder regarding his son, the photograph of Junaid Ahmad Khan (Sehrai) posing with the AK47 rifle went viral on the social networking site.
Police official told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that Sehrai’s son Rafiq Ahmad Khan on Saturday afternoon came to police station Saddar and informed police that his brother is missing since Friday.
Sources close to Sehrai family said Junaid Ashraf Khan, MBA pass out from Kashmir university left for Friday prayers near his house in Baghat locality and has not returned since. The family waited for his return but when he did not reach home, they approached the police.
Terming this incident as “unfortunate”, Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Shesh Paul Vaid urged Sehrai to appeal his son to shun gun.
Talking to KNS, S.P Vaid said that it is very unfortunate that Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai’s son has joined militancy. He should appeal his son to return.
He adds that it is emerging as a serious problem and in such circumstances, the primary task for parents is to take care of their kids. Parents should emphasis on their kid's education so that their future is good and secure.
When asked if Sehrai son will inspire more people towards militancy, DGP said no, it makes no sense. It is daily norm.
He adds that police is vigilant and capable enough to tackle any situation. However, Operation “All Out” is on.
“Through our public meetings we are in touch with people and we are determined to address their grievances and through these meetings there is a trust factor between public and police and in future these meetings will be continued,” says DGP.
Meanwhile, Sehrai on earlier this week has said that Kashmir does not have a global agenda and has nothing to do with the Daesh (ISIS) and its ideology.
“Some elements are creating confusion among masses by raising ISIS flags at the funeral of militants. We have kept a close watch on them, and will soon chart out a plan to stop them after TeH elections,” Local daily quotes Sehrai saying, citing the hoisting of ISIS flags at the funeral of Soura youth Muhammad Eisa Fazili.
When KNS asked DGP if there is any connection between Sehrai’s recent statement against ISIS and his son joining militancy, he said, “It doesn’t seem so and more importantly it is too early to comment.”
Meanwhile, the picture of Junaid that was disseminated on social media has a written message that suggests that he has joined Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militant outfit with his code name Amaar Bhai.
However, Sehrai - a Jamaat-e-Islami, Jammu and Kashmir’s largest pan Islamist party ideologue took over the leadership of the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, last week from Syed Ali Geelani. (KNS)
